Is aquaculture a scam?

    In recent years, industrial aquaculture modes have become popular, including circulating aquaculture in ponds, container aquaculture, bucket aquaculture, canvas pond aquaculture, high density aquaculture, etc. The scenarios can be divided into pond, land-based, indoor and outdoor aquaculture, etc.

    From years of experience, the cost of container farming is too high, and the most important thing is that it also uses the water of the pond for exchange. Once the pond water is affected by factors such as weather change and water pollution, the water will still fluctuate greatly. Therefore, container farming can be said to be a pseudo-circulating aquaculture mode. Genuine container aquaculture is operated abroad, but equipped with a full set of recirculating aquaculture systems.

    Canvas pond breeding is all the rage in China in recent years. Because of its low cost characteristics, many people who are new to aquatic products to invest. But canvas pond breeding also faces several problems. Such as the pursuit of low price blindly, the manufacturer's canvas is too thin or the strength of the bracket is not enough, and finally the farm became the scene of catching fish. At the same time, the vast majority of people do not really master the circulating water treatment technology. Or in order to pursue the low price of the system, the sand tank and other equipment with lower cost is used to treat water. It is not uncommon to see small horse-drawn carts and even to run around naked (with water from the pond docking to the canvas pool, no matching filtration equipment). Under conditions of high density farming, water quality deteriorates rapidly. Rollover accidents are frequent. Hence the claim that "recycled aquaculture" is a scam.


    Genuine recirculating aquaculture is quite demanding for operators. Without profound aquaculture experience, professional detection techniques and professional recirculating aquaculture system equipment are not enough. For example, one of our customers failed to turn off the water intake pipe in the middle of the night because of a malfunction of a water level controller. As a result, the water in the system overflowed and the whole pond of fish ran away. Some people bought poorly designed microfilters, and the system was forced to shut down, resulting in a large number of fish deaths in a short time. As large as a system design, as small as a test box, there may be quality failures. Details determine success or failure. Therefore, there is no overall basis, no strict control of the details, recycling aquaculture is very difficult to succeed. In addition, a large number of equipment factories themselves do not have breeding experience, with foreign experts, Mars technology, project subsidies and other gimmicks for excessive marketing. Lead to a lot of unknown people into the pit. It has a negative impact on the reputation of the industry. This is also the current situation of recirculating aquaculture in China is relatively chaotic.

    In addition to the details mentioned above, the core of recirculating aquaculture is still biological treatment. Most practitioners believe that adding nitrifying bacteria can convert ammonia nitrogen and nitrite into nitrate. But the science is rigorous, and the truth is not so simple. In the rare case of water change, nitrate concentration accumulated to a certain extent, will be converted to nitrite. With the continuous increase of feeding quantity, the total amount of inorganic nitrogen in water is higher and higher. Remove the inorganic nitrogen completely from the recirculating aquaculture system. In order to fundamentally solve the core problem of recirculating aquaculture. But the industry is so quick to make money that very few people are thinking about these core issues in an unstructured way, and even fewer are digging deep into these technologies. A large number of practitioners want to use the "empty hand for the white Wolf" method to seize the technology of others. Therefore, the healthy development of recirculating aquaculture industry still has a long way to go.
